Feedback from photographers who have joined my workshops.
Hello Harald,
Thank you for the follow up email on the workshop. I definitely have a few remarks:
1. Excellent time: It was really like working with a team! We all met for the first time but worked really well (in my opinion). I can see that Marc had good experience, Arjan experience's was with outdoor shooting and just learning portraits and my skills was somewhere in-between both of them. Ivana and Melissa were warm and very professional, I can see where experience is very important. You had control of whole workshop and worked in relaxed way (or at least you make it look like you were relaxed, I'm sure you had many things going on).
2. Technical lesson: I was blown away how you utilized the space in your house! I clearly learned four different types of shooting, use of settings available and how the model fits into the photo. I also enjoyed watching how you took photos, your interaction with Melissa and how she responded and deliver the poses for you.
3. Model: Very experience, very poised, knowledgeable and beautiful. Not only did she pose well but very knowledgeable, she was not afraid to offer her opinion and pointed out improvements and I really enjoyed that she took my camera and had me pose for her! She was really great and I'm glad to read in your email that she enjoyed the workshop. I'm sure not all models are like her, I hope I can work with her again in the future. (side note: I hope you share the candid photos of Melissa with your dog, it was really great and showed both the photographer's and models' range to get some creative shots)
3. Results: I have to get back to you. Since the workshop I have been either working or sleeping (the jet-lag is really hitting me). I plan to look at the photos this weekend and I'll send a few to you for your opinion. If they are good, you can send to Melissa or post on your blog as results of your workshops for other students.
In closing, I like to say I had fun! I learned some important key things, I know I have to practice but I clearly can see my weakness and next time I know how to prepare. I appreciate the opportunity you provided, I will keep in touch (if you don't mind). If you ever need an assistance to hold a reflector or anything, just let me know.
I'll send photos this weekend, tell Melissa, Ivana, Marc, Arjan it was nice meeting and working with them. Sorry, I wrote too much!
Cheers,
John
Q&A about the workshops
FAQ.
Here is a list of Questions and answers many photographers have asked me, so please read this list and maybe you have an answer for your question.
When you question is not listed don’t hesitate to contact us at:
1) Q: What camera do I need?
A: You can use any camera with a hot shoe(were you flash slides on top), where you can connect the receiver to activate the studio flash. And best is a digital Camera.
Just make sure you know your camera. How to do simple set-ups, like to set your camera too manual, etc. I use Nikon, so I can help any time with that camera, with canon make sure you know how to make these set-ups.
2) Q: What equipment do we use?
A: We will use my professional Hensel studio lights and equipment. Like soft boxes, grids, beauty dish, etc. you do not have to bring any equipment, just you camera.
3) Q: Who is responsible for the nude shoots?
A: When the model feels comfortable she will go nude easily, often without any asking. But it is also your responsibility she goes nude. It is the communication between model and photographer. When you feel not comfortable to ask, just ask us and we will help you.
But it could also be the other way around. When you are too active, and you come to close too the model, she feels not comfortable, she will not go nude anymore. There will be NO touching! When you get rude, etc the model will not go nude anymore, in that case it is your own fault. There will be no money back payed! Because you have ruined it yourself.
For outside shoots: Nudity in public is never allowed. So we must always be careful nobody is watching. So we will not get in troubles. We will always inform you were it is safe and where not. When we said it is not safe to go nude, and you and model decide to do it anyway and you get caught, it is your own responsibility! Not ours, because we have warned you in advance.
4) Q: Can I use the photos?
A: You can use the photos taken on our workshops for your personal website, or portfolio. You can not use any of the photos on porno sites or other sex sites.
5) Q: When must I pay?
A: When you have contacted us to join a workshop you will get an conformation email with all details. You have to pay before the workshops will start. For the more expensive workshops we need a 20% in advance. The rest must be payed at least 2 weeks before the workshops will be.
6) Q: Can I cancel?
A: You can only cancel in serious situations, or when we cancel, we will not cancel because of weather conditions, etc.
7) Q: What is the best way to contact you?
A: You can contact us over email:
8) Q: Do you have your own studio?
A: No we do not own a own studio, we always try to organize our workshops on different locations, and on locations we know it always work out perfectly. And most studios are all the same, just boring white and or black background, sometimes a different color. We will offer you some amazing locations, indoor and outdoor.
9) Q: What is included in the price?
A: The price includes: Model fee, my fee, Travel costs for models and myself, Model release form, Location costs, The use of professional hensel equipment, drinks and snacks.
10) Q: Can I choose a model, and what model?
A: Normally we set up the whole workshops, models, dates, etc. But when you want a private workshop you can ask us what model you would like to shoot, we can ask her and see if she is willing to do so.
11) Q: Can I bring friends?
A: No you can not bring your friends.
12) Q: How long is a workshop?
A: It depends, but most will be around 4 hours. Some can be longer, just see the workshop plan.
13) Q: How many photos can we take?
A: You can take as many as you can, normally you can shoot easily shoot like 15 till 100 in 10 minutes. So bring enough memory cards.
14) Q: Can I bring outfits for a model to wear?
A: Yes you can bring outfits for a model to wear and ask her if she likes to wear it. Just make sure it is clean. But all models have enough outfits with them to wear.
15) Q: How far will the models go?
A: It depends on the workshop, when it says she will go till nude, it will be playboy style nude. No further. But when you want a model to go till penthouse style you have to ask for a private workshop with a model who does penthouse style. But know it will be more expensive.
Harald.
